Who Has Turned Up to All of Our Shows?
That would be you. You're the one who has turned up to all your shows.
You're the one who has seen every act, scene and episode of the show that is your life.
You're the main actor, the star of the show.
And this is a problem, because the rest of us have only seen a few of the episodes.
And more than likely we've seen the good ones.
Yeah, we've seen some of the bad ones, but if we're still friends with you, we've seen more good than bad, which is why we're still here.
You on the other hand, have seen ALL of the bad episodes.
And you've heard the criticism from the director, and you've read all the bad reviews. You've written many of them yourself.
And this is why you struggle to believe in yourself.
This is why you struggle to believe you're a good person.
It's so easy to hold onto the "bad" things we've done and not give ourselves a break.
Constantly putting ourselves down, or not thinking we're good enough.
This has it's benefits of course, because it can actually drive us to be better.
But only if it pushes us back towards a positive state, for ourselves and others.
Otherwise, we constantly think and act negatively.
To the point we actually write ourselves off before we've even taken a chance.
I'm not exactly sure how we overcome this.
But I believe is starts by changing our internal dialogue.
It starts by highlighting to ourselves all the good things, and understanding that all of us make mistakes.
It's just part of the human condition.
And it starts by letting go of the mistakes and going a little easier on ourselves, because we're never going to get it all perfectly right anyway.
Until next time,
Marco
